What we collect
Nothing. The app talks to no servers and contains no networking code, so your photos, videos, edits, settings and usage never leave your devices because of Lumiere. We have no way to see them.
Permissions, and why we ask
iOS asks for your permission before Lumiere can use any of these. You can change them at any time in Settings › Lumiere.
| Permission | What it's used for |
|---|---|
| Camera | Taking photos and videos, live looks and the viewfinder preview. |
| Photos | Saving what you capture and showing your library in the Gallery and editors. |
| Location (optional) | Adding a location to photos you take, Sync Sun for golden light in Portrait mode, and Best Light golden-hour and blue-hour alerts. Lumiere works fully without it. |
| Microphone (optional) | Recording audio with video, and Voice Commands (“cheese”). |
| Speech recognition (optional) | Voice Commands, using Apple's on-device speech recognition. |
| Notifications (optional) | Best Light alerts, scheduled on your device. |
Intelligence features
AI Pick, AI Pickup, Match Photo, subject detection for Portrait and the looks, and Auto Enhance all use Apple's on-device frameworks such as Vision and Core Image. Analysis happens on your iPhone and results are never uploaded. Features that use Apple Intelligence are governed by Apple's own privacy commitments.
Apple Watch
The Watch remote talks to your iPhone directly over Apple's WatchConnectivity framework, sending the live preview and your commands between your own devices. Nothing goes through us.
Siri, Shortcuts and extensions
Siri and Shortcuts actions, the Lock Screen and Control Center controls, and the “Edit in Lumiere” share extension run on your device. Siri requests are handled by Apple under Apple's privacy policy.
What's stored on your device
Your preferences (theme, layout, capture settings), your saved “My Match” filter and per-photo edits are kept in Lumiere's private storage on your device. Deleting the app removes them. Photos you save live in your Photos library and are yours to manage.
Contacting us
If you email us or use the contact form, we receive only what you choose to send, such as your email address, your message and any screenshots. Form messages are kept on our own server with basic technical details (browser, device, approximate location and IP address) so we can keep spam out. We use them only to reply and to fix problems, never share them, and delete them when they're no longer needed.
This website
The app collects nothing, but this website keeps simple visit statistics on our own server so we can see what's useful. There's no advertising and no third-party analytics, and nothing is sold or shared.
- What's recorded: the pages you view and for how long, what you tap (such as Download, the films and the looks explorer), the site that sent you here, your browser, device type, screen size and language, and your approximate location (country, and sometimes city) from our network provider, Cloudflare.
- Your address: your IP address is stored without its last part, so it doesn't point to your connection.
- Telling visits apart: a random ID kept in your browser's storage on this site. It isn't shared with anyone, and clearing this site's data removes it.
- Opting out: if your browser sends Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track, nothing is recorded.
- How long: visit statistics are deleted after 13 months.
Children
The app collects no personal data from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy ever changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top. If Lumiere ever starts collecting data, we'll say so here clearly first.
